Cyberpunk 2077 game developer hit by cyber attack
CD Projekt, developer of the sci-fi game Cyberpunk 2077, said on Tuesday that it was targeted by a “targeted cyber attack.”.
The Polish studio said that hackers managed to access its internal network, collect certain data and leave a ransom message with a threat to spread source code developed by a games company.
«We will not pander to demands and will not negotiate with the actor knowing that this could ultimately lead to the disclosure of compromised data», – CD Projekt said on Twitter on Tuesday.
«We are taking the necessary steps to mitigate the consequences of such (data) disclosure, in particular by reaching out to any parties that may be affected by the breach».
In a tweet, CD Projekt also posted a ransom message from the attackers. The note says: «If we do not come to an agreement, then your source codes will be sold or sent online, and your documents will be sent to our contacts in game journalism».
CD Projekt said it does not believe the compromised systems contain any personal data. The company said it contacted law enforcement and Jan Novak (Jan Nowak), Commissioner of the Office by protection of personal data in Poland, as well as with IT specialists.
It was a difficult few months for CD Projekt. After the release of the highly anticipated game «Cyberpunk 2077» the company received a stream of complaints from players due to many errors, bugs and poor performance on older game consoles.
The company is currently working hard to fix these bugs and improve game performance. Sony has pulled the product name from its digital PlayStation Store due to the current situation, and it is not yet clear when it will appear. Analysts then said that the game console maker Sony rarely removes class games «AAA» due to quality problems.
CD Projekt Shares Down More Than 3% On Tuesday News Of Cyberattack And Down More Than 30% Since Cyberpunk 2077 Launched Last December.
